- iPLATO named as finalists in two categories for the British Data Awards 2024
- Research shows there is a gap between deprivation and clinical care, and NHS England struggle to identify and allocate resources
- Leveraging data, iPLATO produced actionable insights to combat this disparity
We’re thrilled to announce that iPLATO has been shortlisted as a finalist for the British Data Awards 2024 in two categories: Data Transformation of the Year and SME of the Year. This selection as finalists for our work on our unwanted variation dashboard is a nod to our mission in transforming NHS data utilisation to combat health disparities.
Our research shows there is a gap between deprivation and clinical care. Practices are increasingly under pressure to deliver the right level of care to an increasing population, which has only been made worse by less resource and funding. The least deprived areas have been shown to not effectively engage in healthcare, therefore our dashboards have been designed to identify these unwanted variations and address health inequalities.
At iPLATO, we’ve leveraged data science to uncover and address the pressing issue of disease prevalence variability across NHS practices. Our strategic analysis has empowered localised healthcare provision, improving disease management and patient outcomes. NHS England struggles to allocate resources to practices where improvement and intervention is needed to address the varying prevalence of diseases, including cancer, asthma and cardiovascular disease. iPLATO is tackling this by employing data science to pinpoint disparities in disease prevalence across different practices, aiding better resource distribution.
iPLATO has prepared, processed, and analysed data from The Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) containing prevalence of disease indicators from NHS England and layered this with the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) scale. This enables us to address challenges GP practices face when achieving QOF targets, helping practices to access more funding.
We have also used internal data to correlate how our digital communication data from our app, myGP (with 3 millions users) and the NHS App can help the NHS with a cost-effective solution to address needs in the areas identified from our analysis.
With over three hundred contenders, our selection as a finalist represents the impactful innovation we’re bringing to the UK’s health sector.
iPLATO’s Data and Analytics Manager, Bella Patel, commented “Being selected as a finalist for the British Data Awards 2024 is a significant milestone for us at iPLATO. It validates our dedication to leveraging data to enhancing patient care and addressing health disparities across the NHS. Driven by data, iPLATO has produced actionable insights that not only improve the healthcare system, but also ensure that every decision made can truly make a difference in the communities we serve.”
As we continue to transform data into decisive healthcare solutions, we celebrate this recognition from the British Data Awards.
